Engineering & Technology Graduate Review

Incredible experience, you get to move around the business and explore so many different facets of such a large organisation. Very varied experience that you have mostly total control over, while being provided ample support.

Placement 1, Project Engineer: I was essentially assurance for the project and ended up being involved with a lot of civil and electrical works. The part that I enjoyed the most was the challenging aspect of interfacing with contractors.
Placement 2, Electrical Engineer: I was tasked with created an earthing & bonding report and doing electrical simulations to verify test cases. The part that I enjoyed the most was the technical aspects of the role, learning how a depot operates electrically.
Placement 3, Human Factors Engineer: Being involved in many different tasks in this role, writing up an operational concept, conducting research and reviews of alarm tones, review of an activity to see that every action is captured. The part that I enjoyed the most was how holistically I needed to think to understand how people interacted with systems.

I feel like I've contributed to projects in a significant way in terms of the work I've produced, where my reports are being used to justify larger business decisions. My managers have been very good with checking in on me and ensuring that my understanding at any given time is up-to-par.

Free transport is an amazing benefit. The pension scheme is very good.
TfL also offers out free tickets to big events, which I've taken advantage of a couple of times.

While I think that my various managers have been kind with me because of my lack of knowledge as a graduate entering a new space, the scope of work that I've been given and the amount of responsibilities are not at all insignificant. I feel quite prepared.

I have been provided a Sponsor, Mentor and Buddy. I have received very good support from my mentor, with interesting insights about working experience. My Sponsor does show up for me but it feels like his focus is in different areas of the business, while that isn't a criticism, it does feel like their advice doesn't land with me.

If I could give 10 stars for a section, this would get it. TfL offers amazing work life balance.

Very friendly and inclusive working environment. Many engineers are willing to teach you and it creates a great atmosphere.

Great experience so far and you get exposed to so many different departments and processes and skills. Great to learn how a large business like this works as well.

Nothing to complain about here. The recruitment process was done in a professional way and allowed for questions to be asked to the graduate scheme sponsor and graduate, in which none of their answers were lies.
