Intern Review

I received expert mentorship from seasoned professionals in an environment that was friendly, non-hierarchical and perfect for learning. I rotated between two placements, with the tax practice group for the first week and a half and the corporate practice group for the second. Gaining experience in two practice groups allowed me to gain a wider perspective on legal work and an appreciation for the level of collaboration between teams. Each morning I'd arrive at the office and be greeted by all with a smile. I was given research tasks, draft training, document sorting and was invited to be present during client calls and team meetings. All members of the team were incredibly welcoming and willing to lend a hand or an ear whenever I needed. All around it was an incredible learning experience that I don't think I could've gotten anywhere else.

It was very easy to understand about the business and the roles available.

During my time at the DLA Piper internship I developed legal skills like research, drafting and organising documents. I built on professional skills that would be applicable to any profession such as email etiquette and Microsoft Word. I also further developed inter-personal skills and learned how colleagues interact in a professional, office environment.

The culture in the DLA Piper Dublin office is very unique. The entire office adopts an open plan structure with hot desks, which allows an intern like myself to get exposure to colleagues at all stages of their respective careers. There is a strong team attitude and collaboration is heavily encouraged. My colleagues always made time for me whenever I had a question, needed help and were always approachable if I felt I had made a mistake on a task. This kind of culture fosters the perfect environment for learning and growth which is exactly what I was hoping to do at my summer internship.

I enjoyed the insight to the fullest extent. It was my first experience in the legal profession and I couldn't come away from it feeling more positive. I was always given the perfect level of responsibility where I knew that if I made a mistake it would not be catastrophic, while also constantly being pushed outside of my comfort zone which helped me learn. I couldn't recommend the programme more.
