Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Internship to determine a place on DLA's International Training Programme. The internship allows you to sit in two practice groups for 1.5 weeks each. Each day you complete tasks set by your supervisor related to your seat and then receive feedback.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

The majority of tasks related to recent work that the firm did which allowed you to talk with others about it, but there was no work that was going direct to a client.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt many practical skills relating to working in a law firm that I did not know before which has been very insightful. The internship was very accessible and there was no requirement to know lots of detailed law before starting each practice area.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

DLA gave a lot of support throughout the internship. The Early Careers team were fantastic and very accessible. In each placement you had a supervisor (who was an associate), trainee buddy and a supporting partner. Therefore, there was lots of support.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Great - the company was very welcoming, sociable and open. There was an environment that made it easy to talk with anyone you wanted from trainees to partners. There was also many socials which was very enjoyable.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my experience at DLA Piper. No day was the same and the firm made a big effort to integrate interns into all aspects of the firm from team meetings to social events.
