Designing in vivo studies to test a hypothesis and putting together all of the associated documents e.g. protocols and formulation sheets, and then running pharmacodynamic analysis assays on the tissue samples. So it is probably a 50/50 split being in the lab and doing office work, but the lab work tends to come in batches when studies have ended.

I have massively developed in terms of practical skills, having learnt loads of different PD techniques, tissue culturing and compound formulation, but have also improved my presentation and scientific communication skills.

A lot . My supervisor has been extremely supportive and actively encourages my professional development as well as is always happy to answer my questions. The lab team are also really friendly and always willing to teach me new techniques despite this not being their responsibility on paper.

Everyone is generally really friendly, although it can be quite intimidating when you are the least experienced person in the room! We have a tight knit network amongst the placement students within the DISC, although more social events at the start of the year would have been nice to help us get to know one another.

I have really enjoyed my placement. I found it a bit more difficult during times when there's been less on my plate, but I do genuinely look forward to coming in each day and will be sad to leave!
