Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had lots of exposure to senior staff who were supportive in driving development opportunities for me & responsive to feedback ensuring I am getting everything I need from them & the placement. They supported direction from my University to gain technical skills despite this sitting outside the typical remit of my role & they supported me exploring other business areas and skills, giving me the autonomy & independence to steer my own development which I really appreciated.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The Company overall has a healthy culture particularly around putting the focus on achieving deliverables, meaning if you have nothing to action it is acceptable to work on your own development or clock out 15-30 minutes early. I've also never had pushback if I felt the need to take a walk and get outside in both a remote & office setting, which further impressed me with the focus on employee health. The canteen in the main office serves varied & healthy food which I appreciated. There are sit stand desks in the newly refurbished London office which I now use regularly. The company has excellent diversity & I work on one of the largest sustainability projects which also ensures the sustainable end of life of devices including for customer companies which amplifies it's value.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed the placement a lot. I was able to work on some of the biggest projects in the company. I was able to take ownership across a range of areas giving me a broad spectrum of experience to draw from as I start my career. My development was continually championed & as a result I developed a wide array of competencies as a result of the placement. I was able to travel across the UK & Internationally to Berlin, Manchester, London & Birmingham. I got to know colleagues who I will miss & was able to be myself at work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter

Computacenter looks for people, the number 1 thing I feel everyone looks for in hiring is how much would I want to work with this person? Being approachable, collaborative & friendly is more important than impressive accolades or years of experience. Your competency is important, I am not suggesting otherwise, only that your ability to articulate your stance on a given problem in an open & collaborative manor is far more important than the stance being correct & this is what I felt CC champions.
