Transportation Analyst Review

Responsible for analysing freight data, monitoring carrier performance, and supporting transportation improvement projects. Day-to-day, the roles involves using tools such as Excel, Power BI, and internal reporting systems to investigate transportation costs, delivery performance, fuel surcharges, and data quality issues. The role also includes developing dashboards and reports, presenting findings, and supporting wider projects related to cost reduction, sustainability, and process improvement.

Yes, over the 12 months I was given increasing levels of responsibility, progressing from supporting existing reporting and projects to independently leading analytical projects.

Throughout my placement I developed both my technical and professional skills. Technically, I significantly improved my proficiency in Power BI, Power Query, Excel, and data analysis, progressing from having limited experience to independently building dashboards, analysing large datasets, and automating reporting processes. I also developed skills in data validation, forecasting, and presenting analytical insights.

I received a good level of support throughout my placement, particularly during the early stages when I was learning new systems, processes, and tools. As my confidence and experience grew, I was given increasing independence.

The company culture is very positive and supportive. There was a strong emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance where the expectations is to get the work done within working hours and not work beyond this unless absolutely necessary which was very uncommon.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and found it to be a very rewarding experience. The role provided a good balance of technical analysis, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and project work, which kept it varied and interesting throughout the year. This placement has shown me that I would like to continue to work in logistics potentially at Cummins if the opportunity arises.
