Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first-year scheme involved 3 days at the office, including a 2-day shadowing of an associate. The first day was full of presentations on topics such as key areas where Latham & Watkins advises, legal tech and AI, pro bono work, etc. There were also several opportunities for networking with partners, associates and trainee buddies. The second and third day were full-time shadowing of an associate, which allowed to learn in-depth about their practice area, familiarise with key legal documents used, and shadow on any calls as well. It was highly informative and insightful!

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really great to have a session at the end of the scheme on the roles available in the future and the details of the application process. It certainly motivated me to apply for potential roles!

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The scheme improved my understanding of Latham’s key practice areas, especially the one I sat in for 2 days (finance). The session on legal tech and AI was also very useful. Overall, I also definitively improved my communication skills.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone I have met during the scheme was very warm and supportive. It was easy to ask people questions that interest you and even go out for a coffee chat over a break.
