Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my placement in Supply Chain Logistics, I supported the coordination and optimisation of logistics processes, ensuring materials and products flowed efficiently across the network. On a day-to-day basis, this involved working with carriers, analysing data to identify trends or inefficiencies, and supporting planning activities to meet customer demands whilst working to minimising cost and waste.
I regularly worked with cross-functional teams, including procurement, operations, and distribution, to resolve issues such as stock shortages, delivery delays, and process bottlenecks. A key part of my role also involved using data and systems (e.g. Excel, ERP tools) to track performance metrics, support reporting, and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
I was also involved in identifying process improvement opportunities, where I applied problem-solving techniques to help streamline workflows and improve overall efficiency.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my placement. I was trusted to manage my own tasks and contribute meaningfully to team objectives, rather than just supporting in a purely administrative capacity.
I took ownership of specific pieces of work, including data analysis, reporting, and improvement initiatives, and was encouraged to present my findings and recommendations to stakeholders. This level of responsibility helped me build confidence, develop my decision-making skills, and gain practical experience applying continuous improvement methodologies in a real business environment.
