Overall, how would you describe your experience at Sellafield Ltd?
8/10, the work is different and is interesting very relevant to my degree. The issue is that there isn't much to do around the area in cumbria other than go hiking and you have to move out to Cumbria as commuting to work takes time which is another issue. However the company employees are very knowledgeable and helpful, the work ranges from challenging to easy. there is a wide variety of work as well which you get to experience in the placements that they provide over the two years. There is opportunities for graduates to meet up on days throughout the year on planned events co-ordinated by the graduate team .
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
depending on the role you are in, as a commissioning graduate my main responsibilities are to test and have input on design of instruments/equipment that is being made/improved/removed to see if it is able to operate safely on plant. This entails liaising with contractors, other disciplines and teams to gain/give knowledge/information on the purpose of the equipment/instrument.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

As you get moved to different teams every 6 months you don't really get the opportunity to impact greatly in a team however the work that is given to you during the 6 months is meaningful ranging from training, learning from experience and shadowing others.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

the wage is very good the only reason it's not 5 star is due to the fact that there aren't many perks/benefits for working for the company. the wage ranges from great to sufficient depending if you travel back to your hometown on the weekend, many graduates tend to do this as stated before due to there not being many activities to do in the area of cumbira in general, the cost of travel adding up as well as accommodation ranging in price could make it so that getting a job closer to home works out the same.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

due to there being so much different type of work/experiences here there is something for everyone and everything. it gives an oppotunity to see what aspect of the work you like and don't as well as pushing you to explore new boundaries, they also push for you to become chartered which is a bonus.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

depending on the team your in however generally speaking there are days where work is fast and there are many things to get done compared to other days which are slow, both are an insight into the working life the fast pace provides more new experiences/skills to pick up and the slow allows you to improve upon the skill and experiences that you've already got.

How is the support you receive?

the support is amazing from placement manager help with work related issues ,line manager helping with company related issues, graduate buddy is a graduate whose in the cohort a year above who you can go to for advice on anything if you feel uncomfortable with others, the graduate team specifically there to help graduates with anything to their bet if ability, internal company help lines/guides to issues such as mental health which you can be directed to external companies if they are not able to provide help to you.
How is your work-life balance?

for me having to go on to the site itself almost every day takes up majority of my life, I have to plan around the commute to work factoring in traffic and other issues due to starting early ie 7 am -->3 pm. there is a process to get on to site which is very time consuming therefore have to be getting up at 530 to travel to get on to site this affect what time i eat dinner, go sleep and go out with friends. Almost everything is effected for example i get from work late due to traffic and then go to the gym at 4:15 pm, the gym is packed which means it takes longer to do my workout resulting in me getting back him later at 6:15 pm meaning less time for me to do my own things/hobbies or the time i spend talking to family over the phone as if I was to try to get a healthy 8 hour sleep I'd have to go to sleep at 9:30

the people are very nice the culture at work is important and is reminded/stated to everyone to try keep standards to a high.

they are trying to recruit EDI people for more tickbox type of exercise.

there could be more of a push to be more involved however many people from the local area are employed by sellafield which sort of makes them have an impact on society in general

all the information that they give to you about the role as you go through the recruitment process id very accurate and helpful.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
the only advice that comes to mind is more of a general tip for all companies is that to be yourself in the employment process so that if they do employ you it because they liked your character as well as you credentials.
