Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was responsible for ensuring customer orders were processed accurately and efficiently. My day-to-day role involved checking stock availability, making sure orders were matched with the correct products, and updating orders when stock issues occurred. I also managed failed orders by investigating the cause, resolving any issues, and manually resubmitting orders when needed. In addition, I placed orders with suppliers and monitored their progress to ensure timely fulfilment. The role required strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement. Alongside my day-to-day duties, I was involved in a project focused on reducing order failures. This involved analysing the causes of failed orders, identifying trends, and developing potential solutions to improve the process. I presented findings and recommendations to managers and communicated proposed solutions to distributors. This gave me valuable experience in project work, stakeholder communication and problem-solving,

Yes, during my placement I developed several existing skills and gained new ones. I improved my problem-solving abilities by investigating failed orders and identifying the root causes of issues. I also strengthened my attention to detail through managing stock availability and ensuring orders were processed accurately. A key skill I developed was using Excel extensively for tracking orders, analysing data, identifying trends, and supporting reporting tasks. In addition, I improved my communication skills by working with suppliers, distributors, and internal teams to resolve issues. Through my project on failed orders, I gained experience in data analysis, presenting findings to managers, and communicating recommendations to stakeholders.
