Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

It involved building an application assisting with data analysis insights and predictions using statistical methods.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a fair deal of independence in dealing with the tasks assigned to me. What I really appreciate is having been able to work alongside the other Associates with a similar level of responsibility to them. Nevertheless, I was constantly supported by my colleagues and my manager throughout the entire process.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt programming in Python from scratch and how to use varying statistical methods for data analysis. I was also provided with training on some financial aspects of my role, resilience and time management as well as presentation skills. Working on a community project throughout the course of the internship enhanced my team-working skills and raised my awareness of some of the social financial issues FCA tackles.

I was given preparatory materials to read before each task assigned to me acquainting me with any unknown concepts. My colleagues were always keen to give me a hand with coding or pointing me to where relevant information was.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was really helpful and keen to grab a coffee and go for a chat about their work or just informally. Senior management works really closely with the other employees and listens to their concerns.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed gaining experience in the sphere of data science and being able to learn from people really passionate about it. I felt truly supported throughout.
