Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role as a Recruitment intern involves ensuring the recruitment process runs smoothly. This involves updating the recruits tracker, sending contracts, coordinating assessment centres and representing Softcat at events.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was particularly surprised at the level of responsibility given to me from the beginning of my placement. The confidence my team had in me propelled me and gave me confidence in my own abilities.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have significantly developed my communication skills, particularly through coordinating interviews, liaising with candidates and hiring managers, and managing high-volume inboxes. This has helped me become more confident and professional in my written and verbal communication.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received constant support throughout the whole of my placement. I have had continuous 1-1s with my manager and felt supported through everything. I had alot of training especially at the start of the placement and I had lots of opportunities to develop throughout the year.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was very positive, supportive, and collaborative, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the beginning of my placement. I found that teamwork was strongly encouraged, and colleagues were always willing to help one another, regardless of role or level of experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, as it provided me with a wide range of valuable experiences that supported both my professional and personal development. From the start, I felt welcomed into a supportive and collaborative team, which made it easy to settle in and fully engage with the role.

What advice would you give to others applying to Softcat

My main advice to anyone applying to Softcat would be to be yourself and show genuine enthusiasm. The company really values personality and cultural fit, so it’s important to come across as authentic, approachable, and willing to learn.
I would also recommend doing your research into the company and understanding its values, as these are a big part of how Softcat operates. Being able to demonstrate how your own behaviours align with these values will help you stand out.
