Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I have a set of tasks I need to complete every day, they're always the same day to day. I check deliveries to our customer focus on the day. I also ring around customers to give notice of deliveries and hauliers to check collection ETA and to cover loads. I send out invoices as well to NI and ROI hauliers as they need to do customs for shipping, and to help with the team with the day to day transport operations

Not at the start, my workload increases gradually when I'm comfortable with what were given at first

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Communication skills. I do phone calls 50+ a day to different people and send out handful of emails as well. Everything needs to be communicated, even when I thought it wasn't going to affect much, nothing is too late.
Quickly adapt. Here in transport, everything changes so quickly and I learnt how to act on it and respond to it not only the correct way but also the quickest as well

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

We were at our busiest in the summer, but my team generously spared their time to show me things around and patiently answer every repeated question I asked

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

It's like having a second family here, seems absurd seeing it's work. However, since all of us work from office 9-5 Monday-Friday, we meet each other very often and have meaningless boring conversations, but it helps us to grow closer and know each other more. It's a very warm atmosphere that's shared in the office.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

We go out to town together for Christmas, birthday party, etc. I really do enjoy my placement and would totally recommend for other students to apply for my role.
