Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Manage sales processes for UK accounts using SAP and Salesforce. Analyse sales data to support monthly KPI forecasting, consolidating reports and presenting insights to stakeholders using Excel and Power BI.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. I had a good level of responsibility during my placement, but the complexity of Cummins made it challenging at times to navigate with full confidence. There was always a lot to learn, which meant I was continuously developing and gradually taking on more ownership as I built my understanding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I developed strong CRM system skills and gained valuable insight into the power systems industry. With no handover, I had to learn much of this independently, which strengthened my initiative

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Support was quite limited. There was no formal handover and I worked in a small team without direct colleagues in the same role. I initially found it challenging to get fully involved in projects and had to be proactive in putting myself forward and proving my capability. That said, I made use of wider networks like ERGs, which provided valuable support and helped me navigate the experience more confidently.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The overall culture at Cummins was very positive. The company’s values are embedded in the way people work and interact. Despite some challenges within my specific role, the wider atmosphere was welcoming, and I especially valued initiatives like ERGs that reinforced the inclusive and people-focused culture.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my placement overall, especially opportunities to travel and attend events, which made the experience more engaging. However, as a new starter, I found hybrid working challenging when trying to integrate into a global team, and with my manager based at a different site, the first few months were particularly difficult to navigate.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins

Be open about asking questions and raising any challenges early, if you need support, make sure to speak up, and don’t rely solely on your manager as there are wider networks available. I’d also strongly recommend getting involved in ERGs and networking across the business, as this really enhances your experience and helps you build connections.
