Applied Controls Placement Student Review

The role required me to work with about 3 people in my team closely on a daily basis. I had plenty of testing, validation and tuning with the occasional odd jobs for other teams. Any testing done required me to be in office, which is why I was in most of the time. My typical tasks took me a week or more to complete, so I was generally given a task and left to do it by myself. There was plenty of help available if I needed. The work given was always meaningful and had real impact on projects. The impact was quite easy to see based on the kind of work I was given to do.

I was given as much responsibility as I asked for. There was always an option for me to go back and say that this is too much for me and it will be taken off my hands. The amount of responsibility was completely self inflicted, which made it very easy to manage the placement throughout.

I learnt several new skills and honed a lot of my existing skills. There was a lot of technical training involved, which was entirely new. There was a lot of development in my transferable skills as well, which came from day to day activities like doing presentations, communicating my thoughts, observations and feelings about work and just day to day conversations.

Support at Cummins is entirely self governed, so you will receive as much support as you'd like. It could be as little and as much as possible. Everyone is always willing to help and you are encouraged to ask questions.

It was quite a nice atmosphere to work in. It was professional, but not overly so and it was quite easy to make interpersonal relations while at work.

I really enjoyed working for Cummins and for Applied Controls in particular. The work culture was great and it was overall a great experience.
