Sales Intern Review

The role of a sales intern was to manage the account book that we had, supporting the business with their IT requirements and procurement. On a day-to-day, we were reaching out to our customers via emails, the phone and through other methods of outreach, and arranging meetings to discuss what their current priorities were and how we could help with any issues they were having with their IT.

Yes. We had the same level of responsibility as a full-time employee when it came to managing our accounts, just working with smaller accounts and with more support avenues. We also had extra responsibilities, managing enquiries into the business.

During my time, I have developed almost all professional and personal skills in some way. The level of development has been astronomical and that is due to the opportunities at Softcat. Some of the main skills are:
- Interpersonal skills - managing relationships and communicating with customers and internal/external resources
- Organisation - due to the self-autonomy of Softcat, I have developed into a highly organised individual
- Presenting - a weaker area when I joined, but through KPIs this has developed strongly

Plenty of support - everyone in the company is friendly and supportive. I have been able to receive support from my team, my manager through regular 1-1s, and the wider Softcat community.

The company culture at Softcat is a fun business environment. There is an expectation to work hard, but the reward is worth it. Everyone is really friendly as well, it is a great community of like-minded individuals, who work well together towards the same goal.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I believe this is the best opportunity I could have for my internship year, in terms of socially and professionally.
