Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The department's purpose is to be a support function to both plant operations and technical decisions. Daily tasks included: deviating parts due to stock shortages, resolving issues with engine specifications, conducting various testing to support technical decisions.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I managed and was involved in many important projects. Even day-to-day tasks had a lot of responsibility as decisions could impact customers and the production line.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes. I have learn many new skills relating to engineering, including engineering practices, methodologies and ways of thinking. Skills I have developed include, my communication, organisation, planning and project management. This placement has also helped increase my confidence

Business casual. Relaxed but professional. Can become stressful in urgent situations but not overwhelming - in a good challenging way.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Cummins in the Product Engineering department. My placement year provided invaluable experience as well as being paid a decent wage.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins

Be yourself and be honest about what you do / don't know - the company looks for potential not just what you already know. There is a lot to learn at first due to the size of the company - don't let it overwhelm you, everyone is there to support you and have had the same experience so understand.
