Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a customer engineer, you work amongst many departments. Everyday is different, but I was involved in customer problem solving activities, prototype testing and assisting with new product releases.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I lead my own project as the only engineer on the team.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have developed communication skills and confidence by hosting meetings and taking charge of my work. I have learnt numerous different software and tools and further developed skills like using Matlab, which I originally learnt at University.

I was provided with a considerable amount of support and guidance at Cummins. I was allocated a buddy but all members of staff were approachable if you had questions.

Supportive and approachable. I never felt less important as I was a placement student.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins

That they must work for Cummins. I felt fully supported and well integrated into the team. Cummins hires to develop so once you have started your career, you don't need to look at careers elsewhere.
