Quality Placement Student Review

Day-to-day, this role involved raising and managing material and process non-conformances within internal systems, including coordinating with suppliers to obtain root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions. I supported the supplier evaluation process, facilitated internal and external supplier meetings, and maintained quality documentation. Additionally, I contributed to business improvement projects aligned to operational needs.

I was given a level of responsibility equivalent to a full-time team member, with ownership of managing an external supplier. This included leading weekly meetings, leading communications, and overseeing their non-conformance cases throughout my placement. Additionally, I produced a monthly Quality report for senior stakeholders, providing visibility of key performance metrics, risks, and ongoing issues. My team gave me the space and trust to make important decisions independently, valuing my judgement and contributions.

I developed my presentation skills, which I initially found challenging. Over the course of my placement, I presented more frequently, starting with my immediate team and on-site stakeholders, before progressing to external suppliers and colleagues across different sites. I also improved my Excel skills, which became a key part of my day-to-day responsibilities.

I received a strong balance of support and independence throughout my placement. I had a mentor for the first couple of months to provide guidance and answer any questions. My team were very supportive of one another, and made me feel comfortable seeking guidance. I was treated as an equal member of the team and trusted to manage my own responsibilities.

The working atmosphere was very positive. Most people I worked with were approachable and always willing to help or point me in the right direction. The company culture places a strong emphasis on employee development, which contributed to a supportive and growth-focused environment.

I really enjoyed my placement and working with my team. This industry was not something I was familiar with before starting, but it has opened my eyes to the opportunities available. I have been able to develop my knowledge significantly and gain a deeper understanding of quality, logistics, and supplier management processes.
