Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at Sellafield Ltd?
In periods of ill health and times of family disruption, the support from management was outstanding. Managers demonstrated empathy, flexibility and professionalism, ensuring I was given the time, understanding and practical adjustments needed to prioritise my health and personal responsibilities without feeling pressured or disadvantaged. Communication was open and reassuring, and decisions were handled with sensitivity, which significantly reduced stress during challenging periods.
This level of support has reinforced my confidence in Sellafield as an employer that genuinely lives its values. Knowing that welfare, compassion and dignity are embedded within the organisation has allowed me to remain engaged, motivated and focused on delivering high‑quality work even during difficult circumstances. Overall, my experience has shown Sellafield to be an organisation that not only upholds world‑class standards in safety and operations, but also in how it looks after its people.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I also support incident investigations, learning from events, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. A significant part of the role involves engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including operators, engineers, and managers, to promote positive safety behaviours and reinforce a strong safety culture. In addition, I contribute to meetings, audits, and assurance activities, while continuing my own professional development through placements and formal training.
Elements of the Role I Enjoy Most
The aspect of the role I enjoy most is working directly with people across different disciplines and levels of the organisation to improve safety outcomes. Being able to have constructive conversations on safety, influence behaviours, and help teams find practical solutions that enable work to be carried out safely is highly rewarding.
I also particularly enjoy the variety of the role. The exposure to different facilities, hazards, and operational challenges has accelerated my learning and helped me develop a broad and transferable skill set. Contributing to real safety improvements that protect people, the environment, and the organisation gives a strong sense of purpose, and reinforces my motivation to continue developing within the health and safety profession.
