Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Sellafield Ltd?

Positive. Lots of great training and a really interesting place to work. I got the opportunity for a secondment and got to pick where I went (UKNNL). This was unexpected and a great experience.
However, I would say I was underutilised and my workload was less than I expected and wanted. Also, the commute to site could be full of traffic and quite long; it was very tiring when I did it more than 3 times a week.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I did a lot of calculations, measurement taking, and report writing. I also got involved with a committee as a secretary and with the graduate council.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

I don't think my workload was large enough and got bored, especially at the beginning of the scheme.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

Pension and pay is excellent. Bonus is great and was unexpected for a graduate role.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

Lots of great training and working in a big company gives you lots of workplace experience

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I got lots of formal training but didn't always have the work that would use the skills I learned

How is the support you receive?

I had three line managers and their level of support all differed but was, overall, positive.
I had a mentor and a buddy. The mentor was excellent but the buddy and I didn't have too much contact.

How is your work-life balance?

I was never asked to do overtime and when I travel for work I got time off in lieu. The work life balance was excellent

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

There was lots of emphasis on safety, psychological safety, and learning from experience which was positive. However, a lot of people around me were quite jaded about the industry and the organisation. Especially when it came to finishing projects and how long projects should take.

How would you rate Sellafield Ltd initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

There was lots of ED&I training and emphasis. However, the senior leadership team were generally all white men and my team were mainly male (though this is biased due to my field being majority men).

How would you rate Sellafield Ltd CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5

Lots of outreach and volunteering. Employees were encouraged to do volunteering which was great. Graduates were required to do a minimum of 10 hours volunteering in the local community a year and I really enjoyed it.
