HR associate Review

Overall, my experience at Mitie has been very positive. As an apprentice who has come straight from sixth form, I’ve felt supported and encouraged to learn, with plenty of opportunities to gain experience alongside my studies. The culture is welcoming and people are always willing to help and share knowledge. While there is a lot to learn in such a fast paced environment and systems can feel overwhelming at times, this has helped me develop my confidence, skills and understanding of HR in a large organisation.

My role involves supporting HR. As part of the scheme, we have the opportunity to rotate round different areas. Through rotations, I have gained experience in project support, data analysis, and employee lifecycle activities.
I'm currently doing a secondment in the People Change team, where i've learnt so much already
I enjoy the variety of the role and working with different teams has helped me build confidence, and gain a broader understanding of HR within a large organisation.

My role gives me a lot of opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by my team. I am trusted with real responsibilities, included in projects, and supported to develop my skills.
In my secondment, i've already been given the chance to lead on projects, with lots of supprot from colleagues. Feedback and encouragement from colleagues help me feel recognised and confident in the work I do.

Overall, I feel that my compensation package fairly reflects my role and responsibilities, particularly given that I am an apprentice and still developing my skills and experience. Mitie offer good a range of benefits, alongside lots of opportunities for learning and progression.
The benefit I find most valuable is of course the funded apprenticeship training, but also, annual leave, employee wellbeing support, and access to employee discounts.

I came straight from sixth form into this role, so it was my first experience in a cooperate working environment. From the very start, I have been given so much support and encouragement, which has helped me build confidence and develop professionally. The role provides experience alongside structured learning through my apprenticeship, allowing me to gain both practical skills and a strong understanding of HR. I am encouraged to get involved, ask questions, and think about my future career development, which has made me feel very prepared for my next steps.

Especially as i came straight from sixth form, I have received a high level of support from my managers, team and mentors. They are always approachable and supportive, encouraging me to ask any questions i have, build confidence and develop professionally. The guidance I receive has helped me settle into the role and feel valued.

Overall, my work life balance is very good. As someone who came straight from sixth form into full time work, the structure of the role has been manageable. My working hours are clear, and I am able to balance my day to day responsibilities alongside my apprenticeship training without feeling too overwhelmed.
There are busier periods, particularly when supporting projects or deadlines, but this is well managed and I feel supported to manage my workload. Managers are understanding and encourage maintaining a healthy balance, which has helped me settle into professional working life while looking after my mental and physical wellbeing.

The organisational culture is very positive, because it is so welcoming and inclusive. Coming straight from sixth form, I felt comfortable joining the organisation and was made to feel part of the team quickly. People are approachable and always willing to help, which has made a big difference in building my confidence and settling into a professional working environment.
The organisation promotes values around respect, development and inclusion. I also appreciate the flexible and hybrid approach to working, which supports wellbeing and work life balance. Overall, the atmosphere is friendly and encouraging, and it is a place where individuals are supported to grow and develop.

Mitie demonstrates a very strong commitment to ED&I and accessibility. These initiatives are visible across the organisation through campaigns, events and training that encourages people to be their authentic selves at work, as well as how to demonstrate the right behaviour. As someone early in my career, I have felt welcomed, respected and included from the start.

The role has met my expectations, or even exceeded them because it has evolved from what I originally expected during recruitment. While I anticipated more business partnering initially, the rotational experience has provided wider exposure across HR, which has been beneficial in building my skills and confidence.
