Site Engineering at Hinkley Point C. My work involves surveying and setting out, analysing and dissecting drawings of structures and networks, procurement and health and safety management of site works and materials.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The block release at Leeds College of Building university centre (LCBUC) works very well with the working aspect of the apprenticeship. Instead of having to split the attention throughout the year, I can focus on university when I'm on my block release, and focus on work in between the blocks, with the additional reviews and KSB units.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Everything engineering wise is new and the engineers and managers have done a good job to understand nurture my development.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

As mentioned, block release to work split is good, and the KSB units we do throughout the rest of year is flexible, allowing you to pick which module to focus on depending on what skills your job has focused on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There's constant support from the early careers team available. There's an Apprentice network within the company. And there is the employee assistance programme available for all employees. Additionally, we have support available from our University, apprenticeship assessors, and line managers.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The apprenticeship assessors and professors are always keen to help as much as possible and are slightly flexible with deadlines depending on situation. Additionally, they provide a comprehensive way to access resources and manage information related to our University modules.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The theory base is essential and helps lay the building blocks of understanding for engineering principles, which get applied and enhanced when present on site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are localised events with your coworkers from the same site. There are apprenticeship events for apprentices specifically which can involve networking between apprentices or with higher roles. Bam also does a lot internal site visits to help assist and enhance people CPDs.

Why?
Bam has a deep focus on people, which is displayed internally and externally. Internally through the interest given to people's wellbeing, by having wellbeing days, a multitude of employee assistance programmes, and plenty of opportunity to grow and develop in bam. Additionally, the external social value displayed through their work in industries like healthcare, education, and leisure, is a clear display of the companies commitment to people's wellness.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
Honesty is key. If bam is a company meant for you, than being honest will display your true focus and values, and if aligned with bam, you will thrive more in an environment that resonates with you.
