Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
Supporting the creation and cataloguing of CDEs in Microsoft Purview for key business processes, including New Retirement Account Opening Process and Advisor House View (data analysis, CDE identification, and data issues flagging); Identified data gaps, incorrect values, and raised clarifications to improve data quality and root‑cause fix discussions.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoyed being a part of a variety of projects where I was able to expand my data analytical skills and utilise tools such as Excel and Power BI to display my findings. I enjoyed being paired up with a buddy, with a similar apprenticeship experience where I got to understand and relate a bit more to how to engage with the programme in the best way possible.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt and developed new skills. Specifically in Excel, despite being able to initially, carry out basic functions, I have learnt how to utilise pivot tables to display data, I have looked at conditional formatting and even have explored the use of Power Query. I have seen a development in my soft skills, where I have been able to confidently communicate my findings with different stakeholders through presentations and simply communication etiquette etc. via Outlook email.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I would say that my programme is well structured. I have seen how there's a balance between my work and study where I engage in my BPP sessions but at the same time, the programme ensures that the work that I do corresponds with the lessons that I am having. I have also seen that is quite structured particularly during the times where I have engaged with stakeholders, where I have been able to deliver presentations in order to develop my soft skills as well as my technical skills on the job.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
I have received a lot of support from my employer. I believe that the fact that I've been able to consistently have direct access to my apprenticeship manager has been such great help in particular in times where I'm slightly unsure about something, I have always had great support. M&G have ensured that the apprenticeship cohort don't just focus on work based tasks, but we've been involved in other soft skill development programmes through our TSX sessions which look out behavioural skills and ways in which we can utilise this in our daily lives. We have had financial session programmes where we've learned about how to utilise money, ways in which to avoid areas such as money laundering and looking at financial crimes which are all helpful things that can help us develop even outside of work.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I would say that I received some support from my training provider towards my qualifications. Specifically the calls that I I would have on a regular basis with my learner coach were very helpful in going through things that I have completed perhaps in my Portfolio. Also areas that I was concerned with and how I was finding the videos that I was watching for my lessons were really spoken through during the calls. I felt like that ability to communicate through the calls made it really worthwhile and really allowed me to check for areas that I needed to improve in.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
My qualification has put me through many different stages particularly looking at areas such as Excel, Power BI, Power Query and how to utilise data in the best way possible given a workplace scenario, which has really supported my working style as I've been able to utilise these skills when given tasks by my manager. I've been able to apply my Excel skills specifically when it comes to data analysis and I've been able to explore other tools such as Power BI and have been able to follow through and develop dashboards which have added to the creativity of my data visualisation.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are a range of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. Specifically M&G works closely with investment 20|20 where I engage in a range of professional networking events, I learn about different financial institutions and how I could increase my network and the significance of it in our day-to-day work lives. There are also extracurricular activities for instance Paddle which M&G strongly supports which allows us to engage in some sporting activity. Also being part of the apprentice cohort, has got me involved with different social events for example, the restaurant visits in December to celebrate the Christmas season.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend M&G plc to a friend?

Yes

Why?

It is a great place to work. The culture is what stands out in particular with the company's values of care and integrity - this is something that is shown across the office. There are so many opportunities to be a part of, especially through the variety of networks available. For instance the EMBRACE network, where an individual can support in the organising of events that promote different areas of cultural diversity and beliefs as well as many more. There is a vast support network, especially given my experience within the Apprenticeship space. There will always be someone to reach out to, with an area of support required.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G plc?

- Take advantage of the various opportunities available - there are so many ways to grow professionally and personally even outside of the apprenticeship programme.
- Utilise the support around you - there are managers buddies and training provider coaches who are willing and ready to support.
- Attend professional networking events to build your network as they truly become your networth.
