Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I assist the finance team with financial reports and forecasts, helping to shape business decisions. I extract actuals data using a range of different sources and help with forecasting for the future. On a day to day basis I work extensively with Excel to extract and present data. Every week I will use a program called Power BI in order to create a report on our revenue. I also have frequent calls with my manager and peers to ensure the accuracy of my reporting.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of responsibility, far more than I thought I would be given. From day one I was tasked with reporting actuals and given full autonomy to do this. I have also been given lots of adhoc tasks to do and I have been able to format and present the data in a way that I think is useful. These tasks and reports I do have real impact on decisions across the team too.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The biggest skills I have learnt would be how to code macros using VBA and use advanced Excel skills such as VLOOKUPS and SUMIFS. These skills have been taught to me from my manager and from examining older files. I have also learnt how to manipulate and create visuals from datasets in Power BI. we were given external training for this. Furthermore, I have had a chance to develop my soft skills because of the many training sessions provided by Warner to help develop us as people.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have received lots of support and guidance from the placement, not only from Company training and seminars but also my manager too. The door has always been open to me and I have been able to ask questions so that I can develop my understanding on concepts and how the business functions. Additionally we have been given lots of seminars to teach us where to look for advice and get support should we need it.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Working at Home due to COVID has affected our ability to go into the office and have real events. Despite this, Warner has been able to hold virtual events where we are able to meet other interns. There are also opportunities to be part of the BAME groups.
Regarding the Games Team, there is a collaborative atmosphere that fosters growth and understanding. The finance team is especially encouraging, always pushing you to grow and learn.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I am currently 8 months into the role and I have to say that I enjoy working here very much. The work can be challenging but once you figure out a solution it can be very rewarding. The team is extremely supportive, always encouraging me to learn from my mistakes. The job far exceeds my expectations and I would definitely recommend working for Warner in the future. Warner is a fantastic company with fantastic people

What advice would you give to others applying to Warner Bros. Discovery
The advice I would give if you are applying for WarnerMedia, and specifically Games, is to firstly enjoy and know Games. Having at least a basic understanding of the Games Industry will definitely help you to understand how everything works. I would also say you need to adopt a very logical mindset in order to understand and solve problems. Without this it will be hard to figure out why a process has gone wrong. Finally I would say do not be afraid of things you do not know, there is no shame in asking or searching for help!
