Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
At the time I was a School Secretary, which included all admin, handling parent queries, stock ordering and first aid when required. I completed my Level 4 School Business Professional apprenticeship whilst in this role.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I learnt many new skills, mainly in the finance section, and developed a few existing skills i.e. HR and people management

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I found the programme to be very organised, despite a college changeover in the middle, my tutors were very supportive throughout.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
West Sussex are so supportive, especially in the apprenticeships team. She is always at the end of an email or phone call.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I have since gone on to be a Bursar, and now a School Business Professional at a larger primary school. I wouldn't feel as confident as I do without the skills gained from my qualification.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend West Sussex County Council to a friend?

Yes

Why?

They are really supportive and keen to progress CPD through the apprenticeship scheme. They regularly advertise which apprenticeships are available, and host events to encourage and further explain how further learning can benefit the individual as well as the school.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Sussex County Council?

Don't hesitate and go for it! I am not academic at all but with all the support and encouragement I have been given, I'm really proud of what I have achieved.
