Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Systems Analyst for NatWest Group and we sit behind the frontline team and resolve any major system wide incidents affecting our investment clients. These could be incidents such as clients not being able to login or not being able to view their investment value on their dashboard. Any incidents that the frontline team are not able to resolve are routed through to our team to investigate and create a root cause fix for.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme. I'm getting practical experience working on real high priority incidents affecting our investment clients as well as studying towards a degree in Digital and Technology Solutions which I'm really passionate about. 10/10 great place to work, great colleagues, and great work/life balance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt a huge variety of new skills as well as have greatly developed my existing skills and have completely transformed my professional ability since my time on the apprenticeship. I've almost completed the apprenticeship and have greatly improved my communication, team working, as well as my hard technical skills in resolving our incidents which has made me valuable to the team and feel great about myself, especially with overcoming the imposter syndrome I first experienced when starting the apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised. I work 4 days a week and take 1 day a week to study and focus on my degree. My manager also allows me to take some extra time off during deadline week so I can focus on my assignments. Because of this structure I've been able to get an 80+ on every assignment so far for my last year of the apprenticeship and am on track for a First !!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive so much support from my employer. If I ever need extra time off to work on my assignments and try to get a better grade my manager is always happy to grant me that time. As long as I stay consistent with my work items I can use the rest of my time to focus on the apprenticeship items and aim for those high grades !
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I do receive a decent amount of support from QA, the training provider. We have a set amount of lectures per module but apart from that it is mostly self taught. They could improve in certain areas such as increasing the amount of support sessions etc but apart from that they did structure the programme well.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think that the degree that I'm working towards in Digital and Technology Solutions directly helps me to perform better in my role as a systems analyst. The content links directly to what I face at work and how we could improve our current processes and I think it's extremely helpful to start thinking like a technical professional and has shaped how I see a career as a technical professional.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
To be honest there aren't many extra-curricular activities here. Apart from an evening every couple of months to go out and get food, I barely interact with colleagues outside of work. It does feel a little superficial sometimes but I would really love if the organisation could get some more competitive extra curricular activities set up like football teams etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would highly recommend NatWest, it's a great place to work and the company really cares about its customers. Everything we do and all of our strategic objectives are centered around improving the experience for our customers which makes working for the bank feel really meaningful and it's not just about chasing quotas every quarter.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
Be proactive and really willing to learn and adapt yourself to the objectives that the organisation is trying to achieve. Take the bank's core competencies into account when applying and during your interview to increase your chances of landing a role. Good luck !
