Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a Building Services Senior Technician Apprentice involves supporting the design and delivery of systems like heating, ventilation, and electrical services.
Day-to-day, I split my time between the office and site. In the office, I help with technical drawings, basic calculations, and project documentation. On-site, I assist with inspections, observe installations, and make sure work is meeting design specifications and safety standards.
I also learn from experienced engineers, develop my technical skills, and work with different teams to help deliver efficient and safe building systems.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme very much and would recommend my company to upcoming apprentices as my company offers a lot of help and support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve developed both new and existing skills through my experience. I’ve improved my technical understanding of building services systems, as well as my ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
I’ve also strengthened practical skills like problem-solving and attention to detail, especially when observing work on-site. In addition, I’ve developed my communication skills by working with different teams and stakeholders, and my time management by balancing multiple tasks and deadlines.
Overall, I’ve become more confident in applying what I’ve learned in real-world situations while continuing to build my technical knowledge.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAM has a very strong focus on developing apprentices and giving them responsibility on real life projects which is a great way to learn and build experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
Be yourself and show a genuine interest in the role and the company. Take some time to understand what BAM does and the types of projects they deliver, so you can explain why you want to work there.
It’s also important to highlight any practical experience or transferable skills you have, such as teamwork, problem-solving, or hands-on work, as these are really valued.
Finally, be prepared to learn and show a positive attitude. BAM looks for people who are willing to develop, take on feedback, and contribute to the team, not just those with technical knowledge.
