Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Forvis Mazars?

Positive - there have been an abundance of opportunities so far, including involvement with internal networks and committees, early careers events, CSR volunteering days among many more. I've enjoyed working towards my prestigious ACA qualification, whilst working on a variety of intriguing clients.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I began my role of public sector auditor as a placement student, with as much responsibility and opportunity as those who joined as graduates. I then rejoined as a graduate, with even more responsibility.
As an auditor, the overriding responsibility is to ensure that the financial statements of an organisation are truthful and free from material misstatement. As I work in public sector, this means undertaking meaningful work on various areas of the accounts to ensure that public funds are used appropriately and transparently. I enjoy this as it feels like I am giving back to the community.
As a junior, I work on the less complex areas of the accounts, sampling, testing, documenting and concluding. I liaise with clients, exercise teamworking skills, and strengthen my problem solving.

During the recruitment process, there was an opportunity to talk to a new graduate and ask questions before the final stage interview.
Before starting I was assigned a buddy who I could contact should I have any questions or concerns about starting, the role, the qualification or the firm. I was also invited to the office summer celebration before starting which allowed me to meet my future colleagues in a less formal environment.
When I started, I was assigned a people manager/line manager who was available to give me any guidance if required.
