Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Forvis Mazars?

Pleasant, the people you work with can be really good depending on the team. The audit engagements can vary client to client but if you build good rapport with your team and colleagues, it is a great place to work.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

This varies client to client and per the task allocation made by the managers on the clients. Everyone's journey will be different, especially in audit, even when you become a Senior. Some Seniors won't have done walkthroughs for example, others may have but have not done bank confirmations for example. The responsibilities will vary depending on your own portfolio and what the team needs you do, especially when starting out - you won't have much say until a few years in when you are taking more of a leadership role usually but some people have that from their second year, whilst working with first year juniors. The responsibilities can honestly vary in the audit line.
In terms of enjoyment, I love learning more about clients and working with new colleagues across the firm.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
This can depend on who you work with and visibility on your engagements. Most managers and partners make an effort to acknowledge your work, but some times it can be lost and forgotten so make sure its written down and given as feedback! Some clients and engagements are bigger than others so sometimes for recognition from the whole department it might be harder for those who work on smaller clients to get recognition. Its not a big risk but something to note.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

4/5
At the junior level and senior level, the graduate salaries are top and as you progress year-on-year especially as you move position in your first 3 years you will experience great salary pay rises.
In terms of benefits, starting out the graduate private health care and stuff like that is not top top level, however if you aim to become manager, the progression and coverage gets better.
I am not sure about visas for foreign nationals so cannot comment on that.
The holiday buy policy is a bit strict, they can only be brought in a certain period now and the change was abrupt so it left quite a few people stuck, hence why this is not a perfect 5.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
You learn a lot about different businesses and industries, you work to attain a qualification, you learn professional skills through communicating with internal teams and clients through email, Teams messages and calls etc. In audit you are booked to jobs and must account for your time as we charge it to clients, this has improved many people's time management skills. You may have to travel a lot to client sites and so on so you experience a lot of face to face interactions with a lot of people and commute to/stay overnight in parts of the country you wouldn't normally visit. You will have calls with client juniors, managers and board members, experiencing all levels of the client infrastructure.
The above just illustrates that I think this role has developed me quite a bit, especially if you're a graduate coming out of university.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

4/5
This would be a perfect 5, however there are a few days where you are doing the same work you've already done in a prior client or in the same client just in the prior year audit engagement.
Development is gradual, in all honesty because you are constantly growing and given higher level tasks year-on-year, it may feel like at points you aren't developing as you'd like but when you look back on the work you once did, you will realise how much you have grown and developed. Its not something you may realise in the moment but it certainly does happen and I feel like I've developed throughout my years here.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
My personal line manager, mentors and buddies at the firm are top notch. They've supported me a lot. HR has supported my through various tough personal times due to personal instances and have been understanding. The support thus far has been excellent.

How is your work-life balance?

3/5
This is a tough one and a bit unfair, you have to work and study as well as have personal time and look after your wellbeing. It can get much but it is the nature of the role and it will be well worth it once you qualify and progress in your career.
The audit busy season is tough but manageable.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
This usually depends on the team as you will most likely being spending time in your client engagement teams and not really with other engagement teams, especially if you're London-based. In teams like Manchester for example there is more of a general atmosphere but that would be in the individual department and not the office as a whole from my experience.
Some offices, particularly the Manchester one have a more communal vibe, where as the London office can be a bit more distant.
However, the firm is inclusive and caters to everyone's needs. There are diversity networks, events and so many resources the firm has to welcome all.

How would you rate Forvis Mazars initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
This has been great from my experience.

How would you rate Forvis Mazars CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
Each office has regular emails circulating about opportunities and so do the diversity networks, therefore there is a healthy amount of CSR from my perspective.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?

Yes

Why?

It is a great firm to work for.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5
You will have opportunities to talk to people working at the firm, both at a junior and senior level so for anyone going through the recruitment process please be sure to ask them all your questions!

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?

Prepare well, do your research to ensure this role fits what you want for this stage of your career and progression, and ultimately just do your best! There are plenty of resources online and help you can get, the process is similar to other accounting firms so a lot of it matches.
I think the key bits will be if the interviewee takes personal responsibility, can build relationships (communication), is resilient and enthusiastic, and finally organised. Forvis Mazars has values listed on its website so please ensure you have researched those too.
