Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my workplace, my role is an Air Conditioning Improver. On a day-to-day basis, I attend a variety of jobs ranging from reactive call-outs to planned maintenance visits. Each contract has strict SLA deadlines which I must adhere to.
I also attend college for an engineering course. I travel to Liverpool for a week at a time, and I do this every month/few weeks
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my program. It gives me a strong understanding on the things that I do in my current role. I am gaining knowledge on both the practical and theoretical aspects of AC systems, as well as the correct procedures for carrying out tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve learnt new skills throughout my course. I’ve learnt how air conditioning systems work and how to ensure they operate efficiently. My course has also developed my existing problem-solving skills as I have to diagnose and resolve issues on site, whilst dealing with customers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My course is well structured. For each module, we take regular mock exams to monitor our progress and find areas of improvement. Before sitting our marked exams, we revisit key topics to ensure we understand them and to make sure we’re ready for the exam.
My workplace is also well organised. I have clear roles, daily targets and constant support from my employer and the office staff. The processes are communicated well so I can work efficiently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. He regularly checks in on my progress at work and makes it comfortable for me to raise any concerns I may have. He’s also very accommodating of the time I need to spend to attend college.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider and tutors. I do regular mock exams to ensure I am progressing, and any questions I get incorrect are explained to better my understanding. Throughout my course, I get the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback on my work. I’ve also been given a wide range of revision materials to support my studies.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My training has definitely helped me perform better at work as I’m gaining a deeper understanding of how different AC systems operate. This has strengthened my overall problem-solving skills. When I come across an issue with a unit, I have a clear plan on what to check, and I feel confident diagnosing / resolving faults.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are several extracurricular activities that happen throughout the year. They hold the annual Christmas event and they have recently planned a charity 5-a-side football tournament to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The marketing team also attend exhibitions.
