I work as a business support officer so support a team of social workers with administrative tasks and taking minutes of meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my role and am lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to move from supporting a short-term team to supporting a long-term team. This has meant that I have took on more workload which has given me the chance to have more variety in the tasks I complete. I currently really enjoy my role and it interests me working in such an important area.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have definitely developed skills as this is my first job and I had no minuting experience prior to the role. I now feel confident in taking minutes for various types of meetings.

My programme is structured and organised and regularly reviewed via meetings.

I receive lots of support from my employer and have regular one to one supervisions with my line manager.

We attend some team building events with the social workers and are given the chance to get involved with things with the other business support officers.

There are lots of opportunities for training and progression and everyone is supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Walsall Council?
To take on opportunities offered because there is lots of support and chances to progress to other roles if you feel you want to move areas. Walsall Council is a very supportive employer overall.
