I have a background in Accounting and my IT Support apprenticeship role is very technical and diffult for me to understand and process. What I do know and understand is that my team is integral to the infrastructure of the bank's background systems
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

NatWest Group is a lovely place to work in and everyone on my team is lovely. However, after 6 months, I know that my current role isn't something that I could see myself doing long term.

I've developed on my communication and teamwork skills. I've learnt new technical skills to do with my role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The Early Talent team is always available to get in touch with and also have regular check in drop in calls for them to informally get our feedback or see how we're doing as apprentices. Also being new to the bank, we've been exposed to several different areas and teams through in person sessions or over teams. The exposure has been nice and allowed me to make new connections but also put myself out there.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My line manager is really supportive and always encourages me to speak out more. Again, the Early Talent is also helpful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The BUD and QA have been invaluable and supportive in helping my achieve my IT Support Level 8 qualification. They are also easily accessible.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Due to the nature and technicality of my specific role and the broadness of my qualification, I don't think it helps much in bettering my performance but it can sometimes give me more insight and prompt me to ask my team more questions and how what I learnt can maybe tie in with my business area.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

NatWest Group is abundant in different networking opportunities, especially for those who stay in or near the big hub cities, such as Birmingham, Edinburgh, London, and Manchester. I am currently apart of 3 Employee Led Networks (ELNs). I am apart of the Enable Disability & Neurodiversity Network, Gender Network - Women in Technology, and the Multicultural Network - Black Professionals Network and the Christian Network.

Why?
From my personal experience, I believe the culture is rich and welcoming. Everyone has a place somewhere, no matter your background.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
Try your best but also be yourself. If you get hired from a made up/performative personality, one day the mask will drop and that's not good for yourself, your career or your team. Be confident in who you are, your skills and how you can add to your team, business area and the wider NatWest Group.
