Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a cable design technician, I work with Engineers to produce HV cable design solution drawings. I mainly use AutoCAD which I learnt from scratch as an apprentice, I produce cross sections, cable route layouts, earthing and bonding and detailed design drawings. I rate it 5* because I love the flexibility of Jacobs and how the sector I'm in (power and energy) is ever growing and we do some really big projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I love the apsect of working from home, I enjoy producing a really well put together drawing that has had a lot of input from varoius engineers. I have found a lot of job satisfaction especially when you realise how much you are dealing with (like a 400KV substation!)

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed AutoCAD skills from scratch, from the first dasy I joined I was watching beginner tutorial videos and now I am a cable design technician so I belive I have learnt that quite well. I have also gained invaluable people skills and sense of responsibility from this job

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I have recieved a lot of help from my line manager, I have learnt so much under him and the apprenticeship scheme has gone okay so far as I am now not far off my final assessment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As mentioned my line manager is incredibly helpful, and the graduate engineers I have worked with are also a really positive addition to working here.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My college have been alright, some of the teaching could have been better, but the course I was doing is not related to my job so it was more just to get a qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I know that the actual skills I have learnt at work like CAD is what I will be valued by as that's what really matters with my role. I wanted to do an electrical engineering course but I have to wait until level 4 so therefore I just have to stick out my current level 3 course in building services engineering to get onto that.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I have been to 5 a side before which was fun as I love football.
