Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Learning on-the-job to be a reporter, conducting interviews, writing the content up while it's still news, doing Facebook live streams for the company, shooting and editing videos for social media content.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

After the toughest learning curves at the start, I enjoy how varied my week of work has become. While some days you may be trapped in front of a screen, others you'll be on a callout in a new area of town, this variety opening up exciting opportunities and contacts in the most unexpected of places. My favourite part is how clued-in the job makes me about what's going on in my city, making me really feel part of the community, and the part I've learned to get over is the need to show my face in certain online content, and finding ways to turn embarrassment into fun.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

This has been the best experience of my life for developing a CV, building my independence in publishing, software use, meeting daily fast-moving deadlines, research, and writing for a widely read publication. I've been able to bring my own video editing skills to the table and work on multi-media content, and gone from being unable to approach anyone in the street to weekly systematic interviews with strangers.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Further learning for the apprenticeship with Bauer, and additional courses such as preliminary law lectures are all held online, which is unavoidable due to us on the courses being scattered around different cities. The first couple weeks of the office work were tricky due to independence I hadn't developed yet being required to fill the work day, but I am finding it much easier to get on knowing what experience I have and lack at this stage, and how things work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Supervisors are easy to reach, support is available for most things I need, including travel costs to job callouts.

Yes
Why?
I left university without feeling like I had much hands-on experience that makes skills on my CV stand out for a professional workplace - here I can wake up and say I'm being paid to edit videos and write about my city, which is amazing.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Reach plc?
Choose the challenging option if faced with two choices - I was torn between a fun easy job and a tricky one at Reach, and I'm leaving with much better experience to show for it.
