Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
Anything and everything. I manage a finance team and a premises team, run and manage the school budget, report to Governors, fix things that are broken, write policies and procedures, ensure the school is well resourced, safe and running smoothly.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
Love it. Helping me become more strategic, a better manager and understand the whys behind each of these.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Both. Learnt much more about constructing teams and people types/strengths etc. I have learnt how to have a wider view and picture of things. I have learnt about change management as well as being strategic, root cause analysis and lots of practical tools to use for different projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
Really well structured but we have had a few staff changes which have been a bit turbulent, hence score.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I have people I can ask for help if I need it, my line manager attends my reviews and is very supportive and I have support to complete my OTJ as well.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Online training, conferences, 1:1 support, reviews, advice on assignments and evidence.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I have become a better manager, person, colleague and part of the team at my school.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
no

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend West Sussex County Council to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The school I work at is particularly supportive, but I cannot say whether that would be true or not centrally at WSCC or at another school.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Sussex County Council?

Pick your school wisely and remember "people leave people" in terms of their management.
