Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role primarily involves providing technical support for Linux-based hosting environments. On a day-to-day basis, I handle incoming support tickets and calls, carry out fault-finding on servers, and assist clients with issues such as website downtime, performance problems, SSL certificates, DNS queries, backups, and email-related issues. I regularly use tools like SSH, cPanel/WHM, Plesk, and monitoring systems to investigate and resolve problems, while also keeping clear internal notes and client updates. I work closely with senior engineers when escalation is required and follow structured processes to ensure issues are resolved efficiently and safely.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy the programme as it gives me hands-on, real-world experience alongside structured learning. It has helped me build confidence in my technical ability and understand how a professional support environment operates. The combination of practical work, exposure to real client issues, and ongoing support from colleagues makes the programme both engaging and valuable for my development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have developed a range of new skills while also strengthening existing ones. This includes improved Linux troubleshooting through regular use of command-line tools and log analysis, as well as greater confidence working with hosting platforms such as cPanel/WHM and Plesk. I have also improved my understanding of web technologies, including Apache, Nginx, PHP, DNS, SSL certificates, and backups. Alongside technical skills, I have developed stronger communication skills, particularly when providing clear client updates, writing internal notes, and collaborating with senior engineers during escalations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is well organised and structured, with clear expectations and milestones throughout. There is a good balance between on-the-job learning and formal training, which helps link theory to real work scenarios. Objectives are communicated clearly, and progress is regularly reviewed to ensure I stay on track with both my role and my qualification.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. Colleagues and senior engineers are approachable and willing to help when guidance or escalation is needed. I am given opportunities to learn through real cases, ask questions without pressure, and receive feedback that helps me improve both technically and professionally.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The training provider offers good support while working towards my qualifications. Sessions are informative, learning materials are accessible, and support is available whenever clarification is needed. Regular check-ins help ensure I understand the content and can apply it effectively alongside my job role.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification supports my role well by reinforcing fundamental concepts and best practices that I apply at work. It helps strengthen my understanding of IT systems, troubleshooting processes, and professional working standards, which improves my confidence and effectiveness when handling real support tasks.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are opportunities to get involved in extra‑curricular activities at work, including social events and team activities. These help build stronger relationships within the team, improve communication, and create a positive working environment alongside day‑to‑day responsibilities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend ANS Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend ANS Group because it provides a supportive and professional working environment with strong opportunities for learning and development. The culture encourages asking questions, gaining hands‑on experience, and developing both technical and professional skills. Colleagues are approachable, and there is a clear focus on helping individuals grow within their roles.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to ANS Group?

Be open to learning and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Having a genuine interest in technology and a willingness to develop is more important than knowing everything from the start. Time management, communication, and a positive attitude go a long way, as the role offers plenty of opportunities to grow if you actively engage and take initiative.
