Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work in a technical support role at ANS, where I help manage and support customers on a day to day basis. This involves handling support tickets, troubleshooting server and website issues, and assisting customers with things like access requests, backups, SSL certificates, monitoring alerts, and general hosting queries. I regularly work with both Linux servers using tools such as SSH, Plesk, cPanel, and our internal platforms, and I liaise with other teams like the Account Management or other Engineering departments when issues need escalation. A big part of my role is also communicating clearly with customers, especially when they’re non technical, making sure problems and next steps are explained in a simple and professional way.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I’ve really enjoyed the programme so far. There’s been a lot of support available from both my team and colleagues across the business including the apprenticeship tutors, which has made it much easier to learn and build confidence in the role. I’ve been able to gain hands on experience, develop my technical skills, and learn how things work in a real support environment, which I’ve found really valuable. Overall, it’s been a positive and rewarding experience and I feel like I’ve learned a lot since starting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I’ve learned a lot of new skills and also developed existing ones, especially as I came into the role from a non technical background. Since starting, I’ve built up a solid understanding of IT support basics, server environments, and common hosting issues, and I’m much more confident working with tools and systems that were completely new to me at the beginning. I’ve also developed strong problem solving skills, learned how to investigate issues step by step, and improved how I communicate technical information in a clear, simple way. Overall, the programme has really helped me grow both technically and professionally.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is really well structured and organised. It’s split nicely between on the job learning, where I work on real customer tickets and deal with day to day support tasks, and academy days, which focus more on classroom based learning and project work. This balance works well because it lets me apply what I learn straight away in a real environment, while also giving me time to build up knowledge in a more structured way. Overall, the mix of practical experience and formal learning makes the programme clear, manageable, and easy to follow.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. There’s always someone available to ask for help or guidance, whether it’s a technical question or general advice about my work. My team and managers are approachable and supportive, and they take the time to explain things clearly, especially when I’m learning something new. This support has helped me build confidence in my role and makes it easier to progress and develop as part of the programme.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive good support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They regularly check in on my progress, make sure I’m on track with my work, and are always available if I need help or clarification. The workshops and learning materials are clear and well explained, and there’s guidance available for assignments and projects when needed. Overall, the support has made the qualification feel manageable alongside my day to day role and has helped me stay confident and motivated.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel that the qualification supports my role really well. The topics covered link closely to the work I do day to day, which helps me better understand the technical tasks I’m working on and why things are done a certain way. It’s helped me build confidence when dealing with tickets, troubleshooting issues, and using different systems, as well as improving my overall knowledge of IT support. Being able to apply what I learn through the training provider directly into my role has made me more effective and confident in my work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. We’re given volunteering days, which can be used to support external organisations as well as network with other businesses or different departments within ANS. There are also lots of events running during working hours, along with social activities that take place after the working day, which makes it easy to get involved, meet new people, and build connections across the business in a more informal way.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend ANS Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend ANS Group because it’s a supportive place to work with plenty of opportunities to learn and develop. There’s a strong focus on helping people grow, especially through hands on experience, and the culture is friendly and collaborative. I’ve felt well supported in my role and given the chance to build confidence while working on real, meaningful tasks.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to ANS Group?

I’d recommend coming in with a willingness to learn and ask questions, as support is always available. You don’t need to know everything straight away. Having a good attitude, being open to feedback, and showing an interest in developing your skills goes a long way. It also helps to be organised and proactive, as the role gives you plenty of opportunities to get involved and learn on the job.
