Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I manage the full employee lifecycle, overseeing all administrative processes from recruitment through to employee departures. This includes coordinating and scheduling interviews, organising interview panels, and maintaining clear communication with both candidates and panel members.
I lead onboarding for new starters, following a detailed and compliant process in line with KCSIE requirements, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate. I regularly chase outstanding documentation across all stages of employment and maintain accurate employee records, including absences and compliance trackers.
I support performance management processes by providing data for probation reviews and monthly KPIs, as well as following up on outstanding probations and appraisals. I also notify managers of triggered stage reviews and organise welfare and wellbeing meetings where required.
In addition, I contribute to employee wellbeing initiatives by organising events and creating monthly awareness materials. I act as a key point of contact for queries, including answering calls and providing general HR support.
I manage the leaver process end-to-end, from accepting resignations to final file organisation and system updates. I also work closely with finance and payroll teams to ensure accurate monthly reporting and salary updates.
I attend meetings when required and provide administrative and operational support across the wider HR function.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
My programme was overall okay and it did provide me with the qualification I was aiming for. However, I found the course itself to be quite lonely and, at times, confusing due to it being fully remote. I did not have access to other students’ contact details, which meant I couldn’t reach out for support or guidance when I was struggling.
The masterclasses felt quite randomly structured, as they were not delivered on a consistent schedule (e.g. monthly or fortnightly) and were instead spread out across the year. Personally, I learn better through communication and interaction, and because the lessons were delivered via Microsoft Teams, there was limited opportunity for classroom discussion. As a result, this approach didn’t fully suit my learning needs.
That said, the course providers were responsive and replied in a timely manner whenever I had questions. I also had regular reviews with my coach, which helped improve my understanding.
While some of the classes were useful, I feel that much of my knowledge has come more from my practical experience in my role rather than from the course itself. Overall, I believe that having more interaction with other learners on the same course would have been beneficial for my development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
As this was my first role in HR, I have developed a wide range of new skills and built on existing ones. My communication skills have improved significantly, particularly through interacting with employees, managers, and external candidates on a daily basis, both verbally and in writing.
I have also developed my confidence in using Microsoft applications, as I was not very confident with certain programmes at the start. Over time, I have become more proficient in using systems such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Teams for communication, data management, and organising tasks.
In addition, I have gained strong organisational and administrative skills through managing multiple HR processes, such as recruitment, onboarding, and maintaining employee records. Overall, this apprenticeship has helped me grow in confidence and develop practical skills that I can continue to build on in my HR career.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It was well structured with reviews with my coach and manager, however the masterclasses could have been more frequent to keep regular learning, as they were quite randomly placed (e.g could be ever 3/4/5/6 weeks apart from each other.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager sometimes read through my assignments once I has completed and supported if they were referred on how I could use my knowledge and skills I have learned to answer the question in a different way, as sometimes I think the questions themself caused a little bit of confusion.
Towards the end of my apprenticeship, working from home half days and full days were introduced to do my assignments and activities for half the day, I found this helpful as it gave me a quiet environment to focus and away from work.
As we are quite a busy organisation it was rare I taken the full weekly hours due to sometimes feeling overwhelmed with workload alongside learning, I discussed this with my line manager in 1-2-1 meetings. Off the job hours sometimes added to the feeling off being overwhelmed as it meant I had less time to complete my learning activities and assignments for that week.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
They were supportive if I asked and I had regular reviews, however I probably could of had more reviews especially around when large assignments were due. It would have been great to have more support from the other learners if we could have communicated together.
I received regular feedback from each task and assignment which was very useful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I am not sure if the qualification or experience within my role has helped me perform better as I believe I learn better by being more 'hands-on' then listening to a teacher talking as I struggle to remember what I have learned.
Comparing my first assignment to my last, there was an obvious improvement in my overall language and communication which I believe was from the feedback and skills I was learning.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is 'felicity time' which is an allocated 45 minutes every week to do something mindful, however I have to admit I am really poor at taking this time as work can be busy. there are sports and fitness classes during this time so I should use them.
I did go to the CIPD event which could be considered as a networking event, I enjoyed this as it felt different.
