Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
You’re working with young adults (16–25) with autism and additional needs, focusing less on traditional academics and more on:
Life skills (communication, independence)
Employability skills
Social development and emotional support
So compared to a mainstream school, the role is more holistic and support-focused, often blending education with care.
Across the day, you’re consistently:
Adapting support to each individual student’s needs
Helping with emotional wellbeing and behaviour
Creating a safe structured, and supportive environment
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team teachers, therapists, support staff

I’ve genuinely enjoyed my apprenticeship at Ascent College. The experience has been incredibly rewarding, giving me the opportunity to support young people with autism while also developing my own skills and confidence. Every day brings something new, and I’ve learned so much about communication, patience and adapting to individual needs. The staff team are supportive and encouraging, which has made a big difference in helping me grow in my role. It’s a positive, welcoming environment where you can see the real impact of your work, and I feel proud to be part of it.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My apprenticeship at College has been well organised and structured with clear expectations and a supportive framework that has helped me develop in my role. The balance between practical experience and learning has been valuable allowing me to build skills while working directly with students. However, I do feel that having more dedicated time to complete learning hours and assignments would further improve the experience, as it would allow for deeper focus on the coursework alongside day-to-day responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer, with staff who are approachable encouraging, and willing to offer guidance when needed. This has helped me grow in confidence and develop my skills throughout the apprenticeship. However, I feel that having more clearly planned and consistent time dedicated to completing learning hours would be beneficial, as it can sometimes feel inconsistent alongside the demands of the role. More structured time for this would help ensure I can fully engage with both the practical and academic aspects of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from Realise Training throughout my apprenticeship. They have been there every step of the way providing guidance regular check-ins and encouragement whenever needed. Nothing ever feels like too much to ask, and they are always willing to take the time to explain things clearly and offer support. This has made a big difference in helping me stay on track and feel confident in completing both my practical work and coursework.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that the qualification supports me well in performing my job role as it provides relevant knowledge and practical strategies that I can apply directly in my day-to-day work. It has helped me develop a better understanding of supporting individuals with additional needs as well as improving my communication, behaviour management, and professional practice. This has made me more confident and effective in my role. However, having more dedicated and consistent time to focus on the coursework would allow me to engage with the content in greater depth and apply it even more effectively.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5

would recommend Remarkable Autism as a great place to join the team because it is a supportive and welcoming environment where staff are genuinely valued. There is a strong sense of teamwork, and everyone works together to provide the best possible support for the students. The role is incredibly rewarding as you can see the positive impact you have on young people’s development and independence. It is also a great place to grow professionally, with opportunities to learn new skills and build confidence while being supported every step of the way.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Remarkable Autism?
My advice to others applying to work at Remarkable Autism would be to go in with patience empathy and a willingness to learn. The role is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be challenging at times, so being open to adapting and staying calm under pressure is important. Building positive relationships with students is key so taking the time to understand individual needs and communication styles really helps. I would also recommend being proactive asking questions, and making use of the support offered by the team. Most importantly show genuine care and commitment, as that makes a real difference in this type of role. Even more importantly, be yourself!
