Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Suez Recycling and Recovery UK?
My graduate experience at Suez Recycling and Recovery UK has been a well-rounded and professionally stimulating one. From the outset, I was given genuine responsibility and treated as a capable contributor rather than a temporary addition to the team. The position being at the intersection of environmental services and financial management made for an interesting and purposeful working environment, it's rewarding to know that the work has a broader sustainability impact. The culture is collaborative and the people are approachable at all levels, which made settling in straightforward.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My responsibilities have spanned financial analysis, reporting, and supporting investment decision-making processes within the business. Day-to-day, this has included preparing financial models, managing SPV's, researching derivatives to hedge, assisting bids and other corporate finance topics. The elements I have enjoyed most are the analytical work and the exposure to real commercial decisions, there is a strong sense that the outputs I contribute to actually matter to the wider business. Working closely with experienced colleagues on live projects has been particularly valuable.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I have felt genuinely valued throughout my time here. Managers have been receptive to input from graduates and have made a point of including us in meetings and discussions where our perspective adds value. There have been moments where I could clearly see the impact of my work feeding into broader business decisions, which has been motivating. Occasionally the scale of the organisation means it can take time to see the full downstream effect of your contributions, but this is typical of any large corporate environment.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
The compensation is fair for a graduate role in this sector. The pension contribution is poor however flexible working arrangements have been particularly good. Access to professional development has been a real benefit. While there may be higher base salaries available in pure financial services, the breadth of experience and the benefits package make the overall offer reasonable for the level of responsibility given.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Skill development has been a genuine highlight of the role. On the technical side, I have strengthened my abilities in financial modelling, Excel, data analysis and stakeholder reporting. Soft skills, particularly communication, commercial awareness, and working within cross-functional teams have also developed naturally through the day-to-day demands of the role. Formal training opportunities have been available, and I would encourage future graduates to proactively seek these out where they exist.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Suez Recycling and Recovery UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Suez Recycling and Recovery UK to anyone looking to begin a career in investment management or financial analysis within a large, purpose-driven organisation. The graduate role offers real responsibility from day one, exposure to meaningful commercial decisions, and a team culture that genuinely supports your development. It is particularly well-suited to someone who wants the rigour of a finance role alongside the added dimension of working in the environmental services sector, the combination gives you a broader perspective than a more traditional finance-only graduate scheme might. If you are motivated, proactive, and curious, you will get a lot out of this experience.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
The role aligned closely with what was communicated during recruitment. The responsibilities described at interview stage were reflected in the actual day-to-day work, which is not always the case with graduate programmes. I felt well-informed going in, and there were no significant surprises once I joined. If anything, the breadth of exposure exceeded my initial expectations, I had the opportunity to get involved in areas beyond the core remit of the role, which added real value to the experience.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Suez Recycling and Recovery UK?
Do your research on Suez Recycling and Recovery UK specifically, understand the business model, the services it provides, and where investment management fits within the wider organisation. Demonstrating genuine interest in the sustainability and environmental angle is important; this is not a typical City finance role, and showing that you appreciate the context of the business will set you apart. During interviews, draw on concrete examples that demonstrate analytical thinking and the ability to work with data. The process is structured but not overly formal.
