Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I’m a Level 3 Data Analyst Apprentice, originally brought in to support Document Control tasks such as managing project documentation, maintaining registers, and keeping records up to date. As the apprenticeship progressed, I proactively sought out my own analytical work, since there wasn’t much structured support from my direct team. Day‑to‑day, this meant identifying opportunities to analyse data, building small reports, improving processes where I could, and developing my skills independently through hands‑on learning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Overall, I’ve enjoyed the programme, especially the analytical side and the chance to build real skills. The early focus on Document Control wasn’t what I expected, but once I carved out my own data‑focused work, it became much more engaging. I’ve appreciated the independence, even though it meant figuring out a lot on my own. The live sessions were where I thrived most with hands-on approach over self-led learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes - I’ve developed a lot of practical skills throughout the apprenticeship. I’ve built strong hands‑on experience with Excel, Power Query and Power BI by using them directly in my day‑to‑day tasks, which has really improved my confidence with data cleaning, transformation and reporting. I’ve also gained a solid understanding of GDPR, data protection principles and wider data‑handling laws, which has helped me approach my work more responsibly and professionally.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme was okay overall, but not always well‑structured. Some topics jumped back and forth, which made the learning path feel a bit confusing at times, and the content became quite complex quite quickly. The live sessions only happening every three months also felt too infrequent to stay fully supported. That said, the core material was still useful, and I managed to keep progressing despite the gaps.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The support from my employer was okay overall. My direct superiors weren’t very involved in my apprenticeship, so I had to rely a lot on being proactive and working independently. Over time, I managed to find my own opportunities and eventually started receiving more hands‑on tasks, which helped massively when it came to building real experience and writing my end‑point assessment reports.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from my training provider was mixed but generally helpful. My tutor could be a little vague at times, and towards the end of the apprenticeship the safeguarding team didn’t follow up as expected, which was frustrating. However, whenever I reached out, someone did get back to me, and when they were available the support was genuinely useful. The learning materials were always solid and helpful to look back on, and the tutors who ran the live events were extremely knowledgeable and supportive, which made a big difference.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification has helped me a lot in terms of shaping my direction and understanding what I actually want to do within the data space. The technical modules gave me a solid foundation in tools like Excel, Power Query and Power BI, which I use regularly. It pushed me to think more independently, build my own approach, and figure out what I can offer as an individual to the company. Even though I had to carve out my own path at times, the learning gave me the confidence to apply myself, take initiative, and grow into a role that suits my strengths.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are quite a few things to get involved in. There are regular webinars and internal networks you can join, plus different training and learning opportunities throughout the year. We also get one day a year to volunteer, which is a nice way to give back, and there are various sustainability‑focused events you can take part in as well. It’s a good mix depending on what you’re interested in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Suez Recycling and Recovery UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend SUEZ to a friend, mainly because it’s a place where you can shape your own development if you’re proactive. There are good opportunities to learn, get involved in different areas, and build experience if you’re willing to take initiative. The environment is generally supportive, and there are plenty of internal networks, training sessions and events to get involved in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Suez Recycling and Recovery UK?
For anyone applying, my main advice would be to be confident in taking ownership of your own progression. Don’t be afraid to ask for work, seek out projects, or make your interests known - the more you put yourself forward, the more you’ll get out of it. Staying organised, being open to learning, and making the most of the resources available will help you get the best experience.
