Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work as a Data Technician Apprentice at Volkswagen Group UK, where my day‑to‑day role involves collecting, cleaning, and validating data from multiple sources such as Excel, SharePoint, SAP, and SLI to ensure it is accurate and reliable. I use this data to create and maintain reports and dashboards, mainly in Excel and Power BI, to support business decisions across SEAT/CUPRA and wider VWG teams.
The role also involves working closely with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, improving data quality and consistency, automating repeatable tasks where possible, and managing my time effectively alongside training and apprenticeship requirements.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme, as it gives me the opportunity to apply what I learn directly to real business tasks while continuously developing new skills. I find the work engaging because it’s varied and meaningful, especially seeing how accurate data and reporting support decision‑making across the business.
I also value the balance between hands‑on experience, structured learning, and support from colleagues, which has helped me grow in confidence, technical ability, and professionalism since starting at Volkswagen Group UK.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Since starting at Volkswagen Group UK, I’ve developed strong data and technical skills, including cleaning, validating, and analysing large datasets using Excel and Power BI, as well as building clear, accurate reports for business use. I’ve gained hands‑on experience working with enterprise systems such as SAP, SLI, SharePoint, and Power BI, and learned how data flows across the organisation while following governance, access, and reporting standards.
I’ve also improved my understanding of data quality, compliance, and information security through mandatory training, while developing professional skills like stakeholder communication, time management, teamwork, and continuous learning as part of my role as a Data Technician Apprentice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
My programme is well organised and clearly structured, with a good balance between on‑the‑job experience and formal learning. I have clear objectives linked to my apprenticeship standard, regular training and mandatory learning to support my development, and ongoing support from my manager and colleagues. The structure allows me to build skills progressively while applying them in real business scenarios, which makes the programme easy to follow and effective.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer, with clear guidance from my manager and colleagues whenever I need help or clarification. I’m supported through regular check‑ins, access to training and learning resources, and encouragement to ask questions and develop my skills. This support has helped me build confidence in my role and progress effectively throughout my apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive a strong level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications, with regular check‑ins, clear guidance on requirements, and feedback on my progress.
They are easy to contact when I need help and provide structured learning materials that link directly to my role. This support helps me stay on track with my coursework and confidently apply what I’m learning to my day‑to‑day work.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
My qualification through my training provider supports me well in my role by reinforcing the knowledge and skills I use day to day. The learning helps me better understand data principles, quality standards, and best practices, which I can apply directly to tasks such as data cleaning, reporting, and analysis.
Being able to link the theory from my training to real work at Volkswagen Group UK has improved my confidence, efficiency, and overall performance in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are plenty of extra‑curricular activities to get involved in at Volkswagen Group UK. Alongside day‑to‑day work, there are opportunities to take part in social and wellbeing activities, company‑wide events, learning and development sessions, and professional networking opportunities such as apprenticeship cohorts, mentoring programmes, and training events.
These activities allow me to meet colleagues from different teams and brands, build my professional network, and feel more engaged with the wider organisation beyond my core role.
