Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I define technology strategy in response to the organisational strategy, and help the organisation to align strategic and tactical technology change activities to that strategy.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I learned to much from my Apprenticeship. It was like getting a new superpower every week.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I've learned many new skills, including; leading with purpose, driving accountability, influencing and negotiation, financial and non-financial strategies, using data to drive decisions and creating business cases.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The course was delivered Online by Corndel, and consisted of structured learning across 6 units each containing multiple lessons. There were also monthly masterclasses from Imperial College Business School covering many topics - e.g. the future of work. At the end of the structured learning, I was then introduced to, and led through the 3 month End Point Assessment, which required me to research and propose a strategic business change.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
My employer supported me in reserving a working day per week (split as 2 half days) to dedicate to my apprenticeship studies and work. They also supported me by connecting me with unfamiliar parts of the business when the coursework required (e.g. procurement and sustainability),

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Corndel as the training provider were exception. They assigned me a PDE (tutor) and we had monthly check-ins to keep me on track, discuss the coursework/projects and to explore how I was applying my learnings at work.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I am far more structured in how I approach change. I start with 'why' (the purpose), and then consider what questions I need to be able to answer to determine how to achieve the outcome, which requires me to engage with stakeholders for the change. This then uncovers what research is needed. Once complete the data will answer the questions and inform the appropriate direction.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
I am a member of the Gender Equality Network.
There are many clubs and societies available at the John Lewis Partnership, including; Sailing, Music, Crafting, Poker, Go Karting, Running and Cycling.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend John Lewis Partnership to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The John Lewis Partnership is an Employee Owned business, meaning we all have a say in how the company is run. It has an incredibly strong Purpose, and this is used to set the strategic direction.
The John Lewis Partnership is very big on personal development, and apprenticeships are an option for all employees.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to John Lewis Partnership?

Do some research on the history of the Partnership - how it came to be. Then make time to understand the Partnership Purpose and how that reflects in how our brands (John Lewis, Waitrose) show up, and how our Partners are different to other retail shop workers.
