To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme taught me valuable behaviours and skills that I use within day to day situations. The support West Sussex County Council gave me enabled me to put the learning into practice, giving me hands on experience.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Both - I learnt new skills, particularly in communication and developed existing skills, such as the use of IT.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

From day one, I was given clear information about the apprenticeship, targets and tasks I’d work on, so all parties (training provider, employer and I) knew exactly what I needed to learn and demonstrate in practice.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

West Sussex County Council ensures apprentices, and their line managers, have robust knowledge on apprenticeships, their entitlements (for example, off the job hours) and are able to buddy up with other past and present apprentices to share best practices.
The Apprenticeship Team regularly offer insight sessions and have designated consultants for each area of the business who are able to provide tailored information and support.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider provided lots of support, from adapting resources to my own training needs, to working with my employer to ensure relevant tasks were available to develop my knowledge, skills and behaviours.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I’m more efficient in my work, and able to identify and use different communication approaches to best suit various situations. This has enhanced my performance and enabled me to create valuable relationships with stakeholders.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are lots of opportunities to join activities. For example, each year apprentices are offered to join The Apprentice of the Year event and the National Apprenticeship Week local Bake Off, which are two of many events!
