Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My job role is in audit. Essentially, we make sure areas of the bank have correct processes and procedures in place to deliver good customer outcomes. This can involve looking at different risks and regulations to ensure that areas of the business are compliant. For example, a control would be ensuring that the mobile online banking app has an authentication process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Since I joined the programme in 2020, I have really enjoyed working at LBG. I have made friends for a lifetime, but also learnt what the corporate world is like whilst getting work experience and studying at the same time. I am so glad I took this pathway, as it has set me up nicely with opportunities that I would not have gotten had I been anywhere else.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, the key skills I have developed is: Building relationships, as in audit you spend a lot of time communicating with stakeholders, Proactive with exams and studying, including completing work tasks, communication, data analytics.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure of our Level 7 audit apprenticeship has been great from an LBG side. We are placed at Birmingham City University to gain our masters and level 7, which is structured well for the time of the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support at LBG is excellent. When I was struggling with one of my CIA exams, I had so much support from my own audit team and the apprenticeship team to get me through this tough exam. If it wasn't for having a great support network around me, I don't know how I would have found the exam.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have worked with both Kaplan and BCU over the time of our apprenticeship. They have provided us support whenever we have needed it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Learning the IIA standards is a huge part of being an auditor, no matter what industry you work in, so completing the CIA exams helps me complete my day to day job, as I understand what is expected of the role of an auditor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, I run the London Social Committee for the audit function. I also am in charge of running work experience for students and I take part in any apprenticeship events/ podcasts when I can.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
For me, Lloyds is all about the culture and people. One of my fears of an apprenticeship was missing out on the friendships you gain at university, but I have made friends for a lifetime. I think the network of people you are around is so important and the colleagues at Lloyds are both friendly and supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
Be yourself. I think everyone is nervous when they first apply for an apprenticeship, as they are so competitive. But, it is so important to be yourself, as that's the person people will be working with. Express your hobbies and showcase your personality as much as you can.
