Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked in the R&CO division where I did rotations within the Risk Advisory team as well as the Reporting and Data Analytics team. My day to day job involved looking at different risks submitted by the first line of defence (1LoD) and assessing whether they had scored the 'Own Risk' or the 'Risk of Harm' sufficiently. A large proportion of my internship was spent working on the Strategic Risk Register, which encapsulates the FCA's biggest risks over the next 3-years.This was a report where I worked on the innovation and visualisation, as well as summarising submissions made by the 1LoD to include in the report.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

To work on a Board Risk Committee report as one of the first reports within the company. I believe it showed that my managers trusted me with the responsibility to work on the report as well as dealing with FCA sensitive information.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt how to summarise large pieces of text, while still including important pieces of information to be seen by senior management. I have also developed my existing skills in Excel and RStudio to work on different pieces of analysis.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Plenty of support and guidance was given during my time at the FCA. Everyone offered to help me when I needed it and I never felt in a position to not ask for help.
