Responsibilities include preparing materials and equipment, conducting basic tests and measurements, recording results accurately, and helping to maintain a clean, compliant workspace. Working as part of a collaborative team, Laboratory Scientists contribute to quality control and continuous improvement while developing practical laboratory skills and an understanding of regulatory standards. This role suits individuals who are methodical, safety‑conscious, and eager to learn in a modern, science-led environment.

I built core skills in project management (planning workstreams, coordinating tasks, and meeting timelines), learned how to perform sterility testing to established methods, and deepened my understanding of GMP sterility requirements and documentation practices. I also strengthened data integrity and record‑keeping skills, applied risk assessment and safety principles in daily lab work, and improved communication by collaborating across teams to troubleshoot issues and share findings.

I would recommend AstraZeneca as an employer because the company is supportive, purpose‑driven and looks after its people. There can be variation in apprenticeship fit to roles which may affect individual experiences, but AZ has been flexible with study commitments and offers a safe, inclusive environment with strong benefits and development opportunities. Overall, it’s a solid place to build a career, even if specific apprenticeship pathways don’t always align perfectly with day‑to‑day roles.
