Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My day normally involves a morning stand up meeting where we discuss our current development tasks and then I spend the rest of my day working on my development tasks. This mainly involves programming independently. However, sometimes I will choose to pair with another developer on my team if I need assistance or want to learn something new from them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme at RDT. It's been really welcoming so far and everyone has been super friendly and the work has been challenging and rewarding while remaining manageable. It's been a great experience.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt so much working at RDT. Before working here, I had no prior knowledge of javascript or c#, but now I am comfortable programming in those languages. It was a big learning curve in the beginning but the support of my team has helped me learn so much.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

So far it has been very well organised. When we first enrolled as apprentices, we were given a schedule for the induction week where we got to meet people from every area in the company and learn about their role and RDT. This was extremely helpful as it gave us an organised and in depth understanding of the company. Since then it has remained organised with each apprentice getting one study day per week and doing dev work for the rest of the week.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

RDT has been extremely supportive, valuing open communication which makes it easy to bring up any concerns you may have. My manager and I have 1-2-1 meetings once a fortnight, which makes it easy for me to discuss additional support if I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular ARC sessions in which coaches give me support in report writing and academic learning, with dedicated time for 1-2-1 meetings with the coach running the ARC session. In addition to this, I have a meeting once a month with another coach where they give me support and guidance on my portfolio. These support sessions can be useful as they keep communication open and allow you to ask questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification links very well with the work that I perform on a daily basis, especially when the module is based on the specialty I am doing (software engineering). This is great because it means I get to directly apply my learning at work and also the skills I learn at work can help with my qualification side of the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are plenty of extra curricular activities that are available. We've had team socials, yoga sessions, christmas parties, bowling nights and plenty of other different things. It really helps you make friends within the company.

Why?
I would absolutely recommend RDT to a friend because of the people and the collaborative environment here at RDT. Everyone is approachable and supportive, and my manager and team have been amazing in helping me settle in and grow. RDT has also been extremely supportive with the qualification side of things, giving me one study day per week and flexibility when needed which has been vital in my success for the qualification so far.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RDT Ltd?
I would recommend seeing if they have any work experience available. I attended 2 sets of work experience which really helped me learn a lot about the company.
