Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently working as a Finance apprentice at Volkswagen Group UK. My role sits within the finance function and involves a broad range of day to day accounting tasks that support the wider finance team. I oversee a range of different tasks such as payroll reconciliations, stock reconciliations and double entry bookkeeping, ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Overall I have genuinely enjoyed the programme so far and feel like I am making real progress in terms of my technical knowledge and confidence in the work place. The content has been challenging at times but working though those challenges has been rewarding
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Through the apprenticeship programme I have developed a range of new skills and built on existing ones that have directly strengthened my ability to contribute in my role at VWG UK. One skill in particular I have developed is applying a critical eye to financial information, which I have come to learn that is essential to accounting

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme has been well organised with regular handovers and meetings that helped me understand both processes I am responsible for and how the wider business operates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I've received a good level of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship, I am given one dedicated study day per week which allows me to focus on the programme without conflicting with work responsibilities. My manager is also very friendly and will answer any questions I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support from the training provider has also been positive throughout the programme. I have regular meetings with my talent coach which gives me the opportunity to discuss anything I am finding difficult. The training provider also offers a large range of resources to support my revision
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification has definitely made a noticeable impact on my day to day tasks as before I never understood the theory behind why we do what we do. But after taking the course I now know of reasons behind tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At VWG UK there is plenty of opportunities to get involved in such as the multiple ENG groups we have. Additionally there is lots of networking opportunities to get out there and meet new people in the business and outside the business

It’s a very friendly environment to work in, no judgement from people. A lot of additional help for matters outside work. Very generous benefits
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Group UK?
Try not to be nervous and be yourself, the people are lovely and understanding of your position so it’s okay to make mistakes just show them that you are putting in the effort.
